ESCANABA — The Third Annual Mary (Cretens) Vandermissen Cosmetology Scholarship was awarded to Allie Deneau, a 2025 graduate of Escanaba High School.
The scholarship is created to promote growth in the beauty industry with a flare of education. The award is granted to EHS graduating student that plans to complete their education at a cosmetology school in the Upper Peninsula. Financial need and GPA are also considered. An essay was required along with application.
Deneau wrote in her essay that if she could style the world over she would give free hair care to the less fortunate — boosting their confidence and letting her see the smiles on their faces.
Mary (Cretens) Vandermissen was a 1962 graduate of EHS.
“She was a pure image of makeup and hair. She lit up a room with her bubbly personality and contagious smile. Mary dreamed big and loved life,” said scholarship organizers.
