Remember When?

Daily Press file photo Alex Mulvaney and Justin St. Ours, third graders at Jefferson Elementary School in Escanaba, weigh a newly hatched chick in this photo, which originally ran today in 1997. It was part of a project at the school in which students learned about the way chicks hatch from eggs. Forty-two eggs were hatched as part of the “eggs-periment,” and 187 students from multiple grades scientifically analyzed the progress of the eggs during the 21-day incubation period. The eggs were incubated in the school’s library, which was temporarily renamed the “Jefferson Hatchery.” The eggs themselves, were provided by the Michigan Department of Agriculture.
