Johnson retires from U.S. Air Force

WELLS — After 22 years in the United States Air Force, MSgt Shawna Johnson has retired from service.

Johnson’s military career began in August 2003 when she entered the U.S. Air Force and completed Basic Military Training. From there, she attended the Airfield Management Technical Training Course at Keesler Air Force Base, Mississippi, setting the foundation for her career ensuring the safety and efficiency of military airfield operations.

Johnson’s roles have included that of Training Manager, Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge, Section Chief, Flight Chief, and ultimately Airfield Manager. Her service included deployments to Afghanistan, Djibouti, Iraq, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. She was involved in Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Inherent Resolve and Operation Freedom’s Sentinel.

Johnson’s work has taken her across the globe, from stateside locations such as Lackland Air Force Base, Texas; Keesler Air Force Base, Miss.; Scott Air Force Base, Ill.; Tyndall Air Force Base, Fla.; Peterson Space Force Base, Colo.; Holloman Air Force Base, N.M.; and Luke Air Force Base, Ariz., to overseas assignments at Morón Air Base, Spain, and Osan Air Base, Korea.

Johnson is originally from Wells and is a graduate of Escanaba Area High School.
