First Presbyterian to hold concert Sunday
ESCANABA — The choirs of First Presbyterian Church will present their annual Advent-Christmas concert Sunday, Dec. 8, at 7 p.m. at the church, located at 819 1st Avenue South.
The concert features the Sanctuary Choir (adult vocal choir), First Bells handbell choir, pianist Bill Rinne, and cellist Lois Van Beek performing music for Advent and Christmas. The choirs are led by Director of Music Ann Wood, who has been involved in the church’s music program since 1957. She joined the Choralier Choir at the age of 8 and fondly recalls singing in many concerts since then.
In 1957, the church had three graded vocal choirs that performed an annual concert. Handbells were added to the church music program in 1982, and Wood has directed the bell choir since its inception. She became director of music in 1989 and has conducted an Advent-Christmas concert every year since then, with the exception of the COVID-19 pandemic years of 2020 and 2021.
The public is cordially invited to attend the concert. There is no admission charge, but a free will offering will be received in support of the church’s music program. The audience is invited to join the choirs for punch and cookies in the fellowship hall following the concert.
