Quilting lecture, workshop offered by Wild Rivers Quilt Guild

FLORENCE, Wis. — The Wild Rivers Quilt Guild would like to invite all area quilters to join them for their upcoming meeting on Tuesday, July 23, beginning promptly at 5:30 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Florence, Wisconsin, 900 Central Avenue, intersection of US 2 and 101 at the west end of Florence

The monthly presentation to be given by Barbara Vlack, a seasoned instructor of the widely used Electric Quilt 8 Software (EQ8). She will also present a workshop on Wednesday, May 29, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

Vlack’s lecture will focus on an overview of what EQ8 offers for designing quilts, with a quick exploration of the blocks in its library, drawing an original block, and editing an existing block. The presentation will include a brief explanation of how to identify the structure of a quilt or block to figure out how to create that quilt in EQ8.

Vlack will also be teaching a quilt-making method of paper foundation piecing using provided patterns printed from EQ8 software, featuring a circular flying geese block. Her paper piecing method uses freezer paper foundation patterns and allows for no sewing through the paper and thus, no paper to remove from your constructed quilt blocks. This provides the precision of paper piecing without the mess and fuss of tediously tearing off all that paper from the backside of blocks.

There is a $50 fee for the workshop for non-members or $40 members. If you are interested in the workshop, enroll by sending an email to wildriversquiltguild.org and mailing a check made payable to Wild Rivers Quilt Guild to WRQG Treasurer at 8879 Lakeview Drive, Iron Mountain, MI or bringing it with you to the meeting.
