Local students honored at universities

Madison Schwartz ­completes honors program

BEREA, Ohio — Madison Schwartz of Gulliver was among a select group of 20 students who went above and beyond Baldwin Wallace University’s degree requirements to complete the challenging and rewarding BW Honors program. Schwartz, a graduate of Manistique High School, made the most of the college experience by joining a community of scholars dedicated to academic excellence, leadership development and community engagement, developing the whole student along the way.

Interdisciplinary and experiential, the BW Honors program offers students unique, seminar-style courses that encourage academic exploration and independent thinking as well as countless opportunities to grow as campus leaders.

Baldwin Wallace University, founded in 1845, was one of the first colleges to admit students without regard to race or gender. An independent, coeducational university of 3,500 students, BW offers coursework in the liberal arts tradition in more than 80 academic areas.

UW-Green Bay announces academic honors

GREEN BAY, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay has made public the names of undergraduate students receiving semester honors for spring 2024 semester academic achievement. Students who earn a 4.0 grade point average, which represents all “A” grades, receive highest honors. High honors go to students earning 3.99 to 3.75 grade point averages. Honors are given to students earning 3.74 to 3.50 grade point averages.  All were full-time students in the fall/winter term, earning 12 or more credits of graded coursework. This list includes students attending all four UW-Green Bay campuses (Green Bay, Marinette, Manitowoc, Sheboygan).

Messina named Dean’s List at UMN Crookston

CROOKSTON, Minn. — The University of Minnesota Crookston announces students who were named to the Spring 2024 Dean’s List which was recently released by the Office of the Registrar. To qualify for the Dean’s List, students must complete 12 or more letter-graded (A-F) credits while attaining a 3.66 grade point average.

Students named to the Dean’s List include Devin Harley Messina of Cornell, who is majoring in Horticulture.

Liss named to President’s List at CMU

MOUNT PLEASANT — Tony Liss recently made the President’s List for the winter semester at Central Michigan University. In order to make the President’s List, one must carry a 4.0 GPA with at least 12 credits. He was also chosen to study abroad this summer in England.

Liss is studying business and finance with plans to become a financial advisor. He is the son of John and Amy Liss of Escanaba.
