Child Advocacy Center recognizes Karla Lehmann

Karla Lehmann

ESCANABA — The Delta Regional Child Advocacy Center recognizes Karla Lehmann.

Lehmann has spent her career dedicated to supporting victims of crime through investigation and advocacy. She spent twenty-five years as a Milwaukee Police Officer with half that time in the Sensitive Crimes Division. She is an expert victim interviewer and retired from MPD to conduct forensic interviews at the Milwaukee Child Advocacy Center.

When Lehmann heard the Delta Regional Child Advocacy Center was opening as the first CAC in the U.P., she was excited to be involved in the startup. She later transferred closer to home to the CAC in Iron Mountain. She most recently has left the CAC to continue her journey in advocacy as a Victim Advocate with the Michigan State Police at the Iron Mountain Post. She is excited to stay engaged in the important work of CAC operations as Co-Chair of the DRCAC board.

When asked why Lehmann supports the CAC as a board member, she said, “Because I understand that Child Advocacy Centers are so important as they provide the best practice standards in services for child victims and their families. The teaming with local professionals for ensuring continuity in cases is invaluable. My experience provides the insight to know that families supported at a CAC are more likely to participate in the judicial process and offenders are more likely to be held accountable. I want to share my knowledge to give the community the best services possible.”

The DRCAC couldn’t be more thankful for Lehmann’s expertise, dedication, compassion, and inspiration to provide the best services as possible for child victims and their families. They thank her for her hard work.
