Pasty sale Jan. 10-11
ESCANABA -- St. Thomas will be holding a pasty sale on Jan. 10 and 11. Pasties will be available with or without rutabaga. No pre-orders are needed. Pick up is at St. Thomas Church from 3 to 5 p.m.
LWV seeks books
ESCANABA -- The Delta County League of Women Voters is looking for donations of books, audio books, DVD's and music CD's to be sold at its annual book sale at the Waterfront Art Festival. Funds from the annual sale are used to publish voter guides and for other voter services.
Donated materials should be no more than 10 years old and in good condition. The League is not able to accept and store large quantities of books and requests that the books meet the donation criteria.
The book donation location has changed. Books can be delivered to Garceau Insurance at 823 Ludington Street during normal business hours. Use the front entrance and staff members will direct you to the storage area. You can also call Pat Rudden at 906-280-1789 for pick up.
Kopacky speaks at international conference
LOWER GWYNEDD TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- Earlier this year, Jane Kopacky, of Manistique, spoke at the International Peace History Conference at Gwynedd Mercy University, in Pennsylvania. She was one of three panelist discussing conscription, conscientious objection, and draft resistance.
Kopacky is the author of the award-winning book "World War II Conscientious Objectors, Germfask, MI the Alcatraz Camp," about the conscientious objector camp in Germfask.
New Year's Eve party
PERKINS -- The Perkins American Legion New Year's Eve Party will be held at the Perkins Legion Hall on Sunday, Dec. 31 from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. There will be a DJ, 50/50 and a cash bar. A Packer game tail gate party will take place with food at half time.
Colorado Yoopers seek nonprofits for picnic
LAKEWOOD, Colo. -- The 23rd Annual Colorado Yoopers Picnic was held on Sept. 24 in Lakewood, Colo. Organizers are looking for Upper Peninsula nonprofits to send in donation requests for the picnic in 2024.
