Remember When?

Daily Press file photo The custom-built 45-foot catamaran built by Irv DeRoeck is towed toward the Kipling launch site in this photo published in the Oct. 3, 1992. DeRoeck and his wife Bette, both 65 at the time of this photograph, planned to move aboard the boat and follow charts to Florida and, ultimately, the Caribbean. The boat included a small automatic washer, a microwave over, and a stove that could convert to burning alcohol for extended ocean cruising. It also had its own generator and auxiliary power provided by two 27-horsepower diesel engines. Building the catamaran took DeRoeck seven years.
