Sullivan celebrates 100th birthday

Dorothy Sullivan

ROCK — Dorothy Sullivan, of Rock, celebrated her 100th birthday recently — first with the celebration of Mass on September 10, at St. Joseph’s Church of Perkins with Rev. Father William Ssozi officiating. Her children participated as lecturers, Eucharistic ministers and gift bearers.

After Father’s blessing, the congregation retired to the Parish Hall for coffee, donuts and fellowship with a presentation of the changes in the Catholic Church over the last 100 years by Dorothy’s daughter, Kathy Gyles.

That afternoon, the family gathered at the home of Dorothy’s daughter, LeAnn Barnett, of Escanaba, for food, fun and laughter.

On Tuesday, Sept. 12, Dorothy’s birthday, family and friends gathered at the Rock Senior Center for more celebrating with lunch and cake. A presentation was made of historic events that happened on Sept. 12 most years since 1923.

The family would like to thank all those who made her day special with cards and social messages. The highlight was a card from Pope Francis.

Starting at $2.99/week.
