Becky Oswald wears the mink boa she received from the U.P. Mink Breeders Association after being named the U.P. Homemaker of the Year at the U.P. State Fair in 1979. Judging was based on the entrant’s home and family involvement, participation in fair activities, involvement in church, community and school affairs, and a 50-word essay on “Why I Want to Become Homemaker of the Year.” Oswald and her husband, Virgil, are the parents of eight children Fred, Virginia, Ann, Ed, Clara, Ted, Ned, and Jed. Their family also won U.P. Catholic Family of the Year in 1976.
