Compassionate Friends to meet Thursday
ESCANABA -- Anyone who has had a child die in their family is invited to attend the Thursday, Aug. 24 meeting of the Bay de Noc Chapter of the Compassionate Friends. The meeting is held at 7 p.m. in the third floor meeting room in the First Presbyterian Church, located at 819 First Avenue South in Escanaba.
Compassionate Friends is a nonprofit, self-help, bereavement support organization for families that have experienced the death of a child. When a child dies, at any age, for any reason, the family suffers intense pain and may feel hopeless and isolated. The Compassionate Friends provides highly personal comfort, hope and support to every family experiencing the death of a son or daughter, a brother or sister, or a grandchild, and helps other better assist the grieving family.
An international organization, The Compassionate Friends has more than 650 chapters in the United States, with locations in all 50 states plus Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C. The nearest chapter to Escanaba is in Green Bay.

Steak dinner in Gladstone
GLADSTONE -- American Legion Post 71, of Gladstone, will be hosting a steak feed dinner on Thursday, Aug. 31 from 4 to 7 p.m. The public is welcome.
Esky Class of 1968
ESCANABA -- The Escanaba High School Class of 1968 will hold its 55-year Class Reunion on Saturday, Sept. 30 at the Highland Golf Club. Classmates are reminded that reservations must be in by Sept. 15.

Dance in Rock
ROCK -- A dance will be held at the Rock Community/Senior Center, located at 3892 W. Mapleridge Road, on Sunday, Sept. 10 from 1 to 4 p.m. Live music will be provided by Ron Jay & The Country Strangers.
There is a door cost, and a free will donation lunch will be available.
