Three local churches gear up for vacation Bible school

GLADSTONE — Summer means vacation Bible school (VBS) time again for at least three local churches.
The schools will run:
— 6-8:30 p.m. Sunday-Thursday, July 9-13, at Bark River Bible Church, 1105 12th Road, Bark River
— 6-8:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday, July 10-13, at Grace Church, 528 28th Street in Gladstone; and
— 6:30-8 p.m. Monday-Friday, July 24-28, at Blessed Hope Baptist Church, 2530 14th Avenue South in Escanaba.
“Keepers of the Kingdom” will be the theme at both Grace and Bark River Bible churches, and “Fishing with Jesus” at Blessed Hope Baptist.
VBS is a fun way for children to learn about Jesus and the Bible, said Grace Youth Pastor Jordan Pardee.
At Grace, for example, “Kids will move to multiple stations,” he explained. “At one they will play a game, at another do a craft. They will hear a lesson from the Bible, see a play, sing songs, and learn new things about animals, people, and other aspects related to the theme” — all while getting “well-connected to other kids in their community,” he added.
The VBS program at Blessed Hope Baptist will teach students how to be disciples of Jesus, according to Pastor Lewis Hague.
Each of the three schools is free and open to children in kindergarten through sixth grade. All materials will be provided, and snacks will be served.
