Rapid Readers choose banned books for June

RAPID RIVER -- The Rapid Readers book club has selected two of the novels from the 2023 list of frequently banned books for this month's discussion. "The Giver," by Lois Lowry, and "Of Mice and Men," by John Steinbeck, will be discussed at the Wednesday, June 21 meeting at Jack's Restaurant at 10 a.m.

Journey Through Grief

ESCANABA -- A Journey Through Grief, a support group hosted by UP Health System Hospice for those that have lost a loved one, has announced its schedule. The group meets in-person and telephonically, for individuals who may be more comfortable participating by phone. The meetings are held the third Monday of each month.

The schedule of topics is as ­follows:

July 17 -- "Talking About What Others Don't"

Aug. 21 -- "Handling the Emotions, Thoughts and Feelings"

Sept. 18 -- "Finding the Help I Need in a Safe Environment"

There will be a brief introduction about call protocol and dialogue between attendees, followed by the meeting, which runs from 6 to 8 p.m. EST.

To dial into the meeting, call 1-337-366-8263 and enter the attendee access code, 573 198 755, followed by the # sign. In-person attendees gather at UPHS Hospice, 901 South Lincoln Rd. Suite 2 in Escanaba.
