Library ice cream social
ESCANABA -- The Friends of the Escanaba Library is inviting the public to its annual ice cream social on Thursday, June 1 at 6 p.m. on the library's north lawn.
The Escanaba City Ban will provide entertainment for the event, while guests enjoy cake and ice cream. There will also be a used book sale and the library's new Bookmobile will be on site.
Due to limited chairs available for seating, those attending are asked to bring their own lawn chairs and blankets.
Edington cancer benefit
ESCANABA -- A benefit for Wally Edington, who has been diagnosed with cancer, will be held on Thursday, May 25, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the USW Local 2-21 hall, located at 1201 Sheridan Rd. in Escanaba. Tickets will be sold at the door. Children under 4 are admitted free.
The event will feature basket raffles and 50/50 drawings, food, a bake sale, and children's activities.
All proceeds will aid Edington's medical costs and lost income. Monetary donations can be made at Peninsula Federal Credit Union.

Post 301 Memorial Day flag placement schedule
RAPID RIVER -- The Walter W. Cole Post 301 of Rapid River will be placing grave makers flags and avenue flags on Wednesday, May 17, at 10 a.m. at the Rapid River cemetery. Help from the public is appreciated.
