Post 301 Memorial Day ceremonies scheduled
RAPID RIVER -- The Walter W. Cole Post 301 of Rapid River will be presenting Memorial Day ceremonies at the following cemeteries:
Ogontz -- 8 a.m.
Isabella/Moss Lake -- 8:40 a.m.
Nahma/Veteran Memorial -- 9:10 a.m.
Stonington Lakewood -- 10:10 a.m.
Rapid River -- 11:15 a.m.
Grave makers flags and avenue flags will be installed on Wednesday, May 17, at 10 a.m. at the Rapid River cemetery. Help from the public is appreciated.
Rapid Readers to meet
RAPID READERS -- Rapid Readers meet to discuss the May selection, "The Heavenly Table" by Donald Pollock at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 17, at Jack's Restaurant in Rapid River. Members are asked to bring suggestions for the June read or submit them to the group website prior to the meeting.

Historical Society Annual Meeting set
ESCANABA -- Retired Great Lakes freighter captain Raymond Sheldon and photographer and entrepreneur Peggy O'Connell will present "Love and Life on the Great Lakes" at the Historical Society's 75th Annual Dinner Meeting at Highland Golf Club on Wednesday, May 17.
Sheldon retired as captain of the MV Joseph L. Block after a 45-year career on the Great Lakes. O'Connell is a photographer and entrepreneur in Escanaba. The couple married on the Joseph L. Block in June of 2019. They continue to travel and share their professional and personal adventures.
There is a cost for the event, which includes a buffet dinner and the program. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m., with the buffet opening at 6 p.m., and the program starting at 7 p.m. There will also be a short business meeting.

Gladstone book club
GLADSTONE -- The Gladstone Book Club will meet at the Gladstone Library on Thursday, May 11 at 10 a.m. "The Lost Runaway" by Tracy Chevalier is the May reading selection.
