Wells Lions Club raffle winner named

WELLS — The winner of the Wells Lions Club 52-week raffle for the week of Nov. 21 is Mark Hager, of Gladstone. Hager won $100.

This was week 17 of the raffle.

Choral Society concert set for Dec. 4

ESCANABA — The Bay de Noc Choral Society will present their Christmas concert on

Sunday, Dec. 4 at 1:30 p.m. Bethany Lutheran Church in Escanaba will once again host the annual event.

The concert will feature a varied program with sacred and secular Christmas music and will include guest musicians. A string orchestra will join the choir on choruses from Saint-Saens “Christmas Oratorio.” Other instruments slated to join the Choral Society include cello, clarinet, hand bells, piano and organ. There are familiar carols that are sung in traditional arrangements and some are sung in unexpected styles including “Infant Holy, Infant Lowly,” “Unto Us a Child is Born” and “Joy to the World.” The group will also perform the beloved Christmas poem “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.”

Admission is free for the concert. A free will offering will be collected to help pay for the expenses of putting on the performance.

The Bay de Noc Choral Society, directed by Ann Wood and accompanied by John Ignatowski, is a four-part choir that has been delighting audiences since a the 1960s. They welcome new members and all singers are welcome to join the weekly Tuesday night rehearsal. The group will resume rehearsals in January to prepare for the Spring Concert.
