Halloween Story Hour

GLADSTONE — The Gladstone Public Library will be holding a “Spookadelic Halloween!” Story Hour on Saturday, Oct. 22 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

All children ages 2 to 10 years old are welcome to join in the “spine-tingling” festivities. Children are invited to come dressed in costume.

Those in attendance will have a chance to win a free prize. Activities will include spooky tales, music, crafts and a special treat.

AAUW to meet Oct. 18

ESCANABA — The Escanaba Area Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 18 to hear a presentation on school safety by Doug Leisenring, Superintendent of the Delta-Schoolcraft Intermediate School District. His presentation will focus on security of school buildings, staff training and collaboration with local law enforcement.

Guests are welcome. The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 500 Ogden Avenue, Escanaba. Dessert and coffee will be served.

AAUW is open to men and women holding an associates degree or higher. It promotes gender equity and life long learning.

Rapid Readers to meet

RAPID RIVER — The Rapid Readers will meet Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 10 a.m. at Jack’s in Rapid River. October’s book is “The First Frost” by Sarah A. Allen. New members are welcome. Questions can be directed to Peg Netchey at 428-9668.
