VanEyck named Young Son of the Year

MENOMINEE — The Sons of the American Legion Young Son of the Year has been awarded to Menominee-native Brody VanEyck.

VanEyck has been actively assisting the Menominee Sons of the American Legion Squadron #146 since he was 2 years old. He is now 8 years old and continues to assist in various activities throughout the year.

His activities include, placing American flags on veteran graves; placing evergreen wreaths during the winter; reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, handing out flags on the 4th of July; marching in the Veterans Day parade with his grandpa, Steve VanEyck; decorating for the annual Army-Navy Game; shagging baseballs at American Legion baseball games.

He also signs and sends Christmas and Veterans Day cards to overseas troops. In school, he participates in baseball, soccer and basketball. He is also a member of the DAR Boys and Girl Club, where he is a Youth of the Month award winner.

Founded in 1932, Sons of The American Legion exists to honor the service and sacrifice of Legionnaires. Sons of the American Legion members include males of all ages whose parents or grandparents served in the U.S. military and were eligible for American Legion membership. Members of The American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary and Sons of The American Legion comprise the Legion Family, which has a combined membership of nearly 4.2 million.
