Ford River Fire Department breakfast
HYDE — The Ford River Volunteer Fire Department will have a pancake breakfast and bake sale Sunday, Oct. 9 from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Highland Golf Club. This will be the first time the breakfast is held at the new location on 3011 U.S. 2 & 41 in Hyde, just a few minutes west of Escanaba between Escanaba and Bark River.
There is a cost for the breakfast and to purchase baked goods from the sale.
The fire department would also like to remind the public to change the batteries in their smoke detectors.
Elks Auxiliary meeting
ESCANABA — The October Elks Auxiliary meeting will be held on Thursday, Oct. 6. Social hour will begin at 5:30 p.m., dinner will begin at 6:45 p.m. with the meeting to follow. For reservations or cancellations, call or text Peggy at 906-280-1585 by noon on Monday, Oct. 3.
Indian education meeting Oct. 17
ESCANABA — There will be an Indian Education Parent Committee Meeting at the Escanaba Upper Elementary on Monday, Oct. 17 at 6 p.m. All are welcome to attend. Contact Mikiah Tryan at 906-786-7462 ext. 2216 for more information.
Plant-based cooking class at SDA Church
ESCANABA — The Escanaba and Riverside Seventh-Day Adventist Churches will be hosting a nutritional health and cooking class on Sept. 29. The class, called “Plant-Based Eating 101: Step-by-Step Guide to Preparing Tasty Plant-Based Meals,” will take place at 6 p.m. at the Escanaba Seventh-Day Adventist Church, located at 210 S. Lincoln Road.
The class, which aims to equip those looking to add more plant-based options into their diet as well as those who are interested in dropping meats altogether.
Topics will include “Why Plant-Based Eating,” “Cost-Effective Plant Based Grocery Shopping,” “The Art of Substitutions in Recipes,” “Simple Tips to Start Adding More Plant-Based Foods.” Included in the class are take home recipes, cooking demonstrations, handouts, food samples, and door prizes.

Eagles breakfast
ESCANABA — This Sunday, Sept. 18, breakfast will be served at Escanaba Eagles Club, located at 608 Ludington Street. Breakfasts will continue every third Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
There is a cost for the breakfast, and take-out meals are available.
