GLADSTONE — The Community of Christ Church is celebrating 100 years of worship in Gladstone. “Save the Dates” of September 10 and 11, to join the congregation for guest ministry, area history and enjoy fellowship with a pie and ice cream social.

“Our congregation families such as the Rasmusson’s, Sigfred’s, Swan, Stowe, Rousseau’s, Sarisin’s and so many more have been a part of the fabric of City for well over one hundred years” says Aleta Kaukola, church historian.

The church building, on the corner of Wisconsin and 11th Street, formerly served the Congregational Church of Gladstone. Charter members met in homes and the old Wells School until they purchased the church building from the Empson family when they immigrated to Gladstone from Sweden and ministered to the community.

Kaukola, being wheelchair bound for several years, has dedicated her gifts and talents to collecting the historical pictures and information and documenting with her artwork that will be on display.

“We proclaim Jesus Christ and promote communities of joy, hope, love and peace. We welcome and value the worth of every person as a child of God” says Donna Richie, current pastor of The Community of Christ Church. “We encourage our past and present church members families and our community congregations and neighbors, to join us to help celebrate this milestone.”
