GLADSTONE — Mallory Burie, life skills teacher at Gladstone elementary buildings, created a student Kindness Club to spread cheer amongst the school and community.

The club is comprised primarily of fifth grade students and has taken on several projects throughout the school year. Burie and her students volunteer their free time to encourage kindness and wellbeing. The club concluded the school year with a community service project based on the idea that kindness had a “domino effect.” The club collected donations of boxes of cereal to donate to the food pantry at St. Vincent de Paul.

The club challenged other students and staff members to bring in more boxes than the amount collected by club members. A total of 150 boxes were donated. These boxes were lined up to create a domino chain as a culminating event before being given to charity.

Students and staff members recognized that students would likely be home for the summer and in need of accessible breakfast meals. Students were proud to be able to help others through this domino effect project.

Starting at $3.50/week.
