The Compassionate Friends meet Thursday

ESCANABA — Anyone who has had a child die in their family is invited to attend the Thursday, June 23 meeting of the Bay De Noc Chapter of the Compassionate Friends. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in a third floor meeting room in the First Presbyterian Church, located at 819 First Avenue South in Escanaba.

Compassionate Friends is a nonprofit self-help bereavement support organization for families that have experienced the death of a child. When a child dies, at any age, for any reason, the family suffers intense pain and may feel hopeless and isolated. The Compassionate Friends provides highly personal comfort, hope and support to every family experiencing the death of a son or daughter, a brother or sister, or a grandchild, and helps others better assist the grieving family.

The local meetings are normally held on the fourth Thursday of each month except in November and December. Anyone who has lost a child, grandchild or sibling is invited to attend.

An international organization, The Compassionate Friends has more than 650 chapters in the United States with locations in all 50 states plus Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C. The nearest chapter to Escanaba is in Green Bay.
