“Dance marathon” may have been a misnomer for an event held today in 1975. Instead of couples drooped over each other in a slow step, the event’s rules allowed contestants to continue in the event as long as they were continually moving. That prompted some unique takes on the challenge, with some deciding it was time for a game of cards. April 12, 1975 was a Saturday, and bands and dancers participating in the marathon were expected to keep spectators entertained through 8 p.m. Sunday — except for a rest period between 3 and 7 a.m. The donations received during the marathon were donated to charity.
