That prompted some unique takes on the challenge, with some deciding it was time for a game of cards. April 12, 1975 was a Saturday, and bands and dancers participating in the marathon were expected to keep spectators entertained through 8 p.m. Sunday — except for a rest period between 3 and 7 a.m. The donations received during the marathon were donated to charity.
