Lenten speakers
GLADSTONE -- Memorial United Methodist Church, located at 1920 Lake Shore Drive Gladstone, is hosting a Lenten speaker series.
Every Wednesday during lent a light soup supper is held at 5:30 p.m. and a speaker of community interest presents from 6 to 7 p.m. The speaker for March 16 is Samantha Frizzell of Delta County Families Against Narcotics.
The public is invited and the church is fully accessible. For more information, the church can be reached at 906-428-9311, Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Rapid Readers to meet
RAPID RIVER -- Rapid Readers' March discussion takes place Wednesday, March 16 at 10 a.m. at Jack's Restaurant in Rapid River. "The Last Thing He Told Me" by Laura Dave is this month's selection. The choice for April 20 is "Population One" by Tyler McNamer.

AAUW book night
ESCANABA -- The American Association of University Women (AAUW) will hold a book night on March 15 at 5:30 p.m. Members are asked to bring a favorite book to share. Dinner will be provided. Call Judy at 906-789-1905 to make a reservation and to receive location information.
AAUW is open to men and women holding an associates degree or higher. Started in 1881, the organization is globally recognized for its advancement of equality for women and girls through advocacy, education, and research.
Foster care open house
ESCANABA -- Foster home licensing workers will hold an informational open house at the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services office, 305 Ludington St., Escanaba, on Tuesday, April 19. The open house will take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and is for anyone who is interested in learning more about providing foster care for children locally.
