Salmi family now has nine Eagle Scouts in its ranks
ESCANABA — On Nov. 4, 2021, Hutch Allen Salmi, and Ashton Michael Salmi, sons of Jodi and Brad Salmi, received their Boy Scouts of America Eagle Scout Awards in a double Eagle ceremony. Hutch and Ashton became the eighth and ninth Eagle Scouts in the Salmi family. They are the grandsons of Al and Dolly Salmi of Rapid River, and Donna, (and the late Earl “Hutch”), Hutchinson of Gladstone, who all attended the ceremony held at their church, Messiah Lutheran Church in Lakeville, Minnesota.
Both Ashton and Hutch are active members of Troop 9261 in Lakeville, Minn. The troop belongs to the Northern Star Council, BSA. They each completed separate Eagle Scout service projects, meeting the final requirement of earning the Eagle Scout award. Ashton is a senior at Lakeville North High School while Hutch is a sophomore at Lakeville South High School.
Participating in the ceremony was Ashton and Hutch’s grandfather, Al Salmi, who delivered the “Eagle Charge” to both of his grandsons. Al received his Eagle Award in 1963 in Marquette from Troop 359 while attending Northern Michigan University. Most of his previous rank advancement took place at his home Troop 489 in Rock under the leadership of the late Jack Larson, scoutmaster.
Hutch and Ashton had the pleasure of also having their mother and father as well as two uncles to participate in the ceremony. Brad and Jodi both were troop leaders for many years. Their Uncle, Allen Salmi, of Pulaski, WI delivered “The Trail to Eagle” and their Uncle Mike, of Houghton, MI provided “The Voice of the Eagle”.
Allen, 1987; Mike, 1988; and Brad,1992, all earned their Eagle award as members of Troop 466 in Gladstone. Allen and Traci Salmi have three sons, Luke, Jacob and Zachary, each who also earned their Eagle Scout Awards at their scout troop in Suamico, Wis.
