Holy Name Catholic High School to hold open house Aug. 26

ESCANABA — The community is invited to join in celebrating the re-opening of Holy Name High School – A Chesterton Academy with an open house on Thursday, Aug. 26.

The new HNHS will be located at the former St. Anne’s School at 2203 7th Ave. South, Escanaba. The open house will run from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. for all community members who would like to tour the new school and classrooms, meet the teachers and the new HNHS headmaster, Mr. Mark Surrel. Hors d’oeuvres and refreshments will be served.

“We invite the community, alumni and everyone who has helped make this happen to the open house on Aug. 26,” said Michelle Bink, Holy Name alumni/development director. “And we hope we can get as many alumni as possible to hold the doors open for the incoming ninth and tenth graders on their first day of school. This is an exciting time for families and students across the Upper Peninsula and for the Diocese of Marquette. Now there is a choice for families to give their children a Catholic education beyond eighth grade. Juniors from the class of 1971 did all they could to keep the doors open, and finally, after fifty years, the doors will reopen.”

The 2021-22 school year officially begins for HNHS on Monday, Aug. 30. The day begins with a Mass at St. Anne’s Church at 8 a.m., followed by a blessing immediately after Mass at the east entrance of HNHS. Food and refreshments for all will follow in the St. Anne’s Parish Hall.

The original Holy Name High School closed in 1971. Now, 50 years later, Holy Name High School – A Chesterton Academy will re-open for students across the Upper Peninsula.
