As I was perusing Facebook, I noticed a particular post by Fay Frailing, our 1970 Class Treasurer, concerning our missed 50th Class Reunion because of the COVID-19 Pandemic. She inquired about a new date to reschedule the treasured celebration. In response to her inquiry, I couldn't help but notice and detect the excitement and enthusiasm by our fellow classmates in regards to our 50th high school reunion.
Many of us experienced the changes and challenges that evolved from COVID. This past year has been extremely disruptive, sad, and truly sorrowful. Some of the impacts that resulted from COVID have been friends dealing with isolation or very limited contact from others, dealing with the loss of loved ones, and a superfluity of disruptions.
Time is of the essence, and planning for the 50th high school reunion commenced. Meetings were established to gather information regarding our class: email and mailing addresses and phone numbers. A planning group diligently went to work to discuss logistics and details of date, time, facility, and caterer.
I am looking forward to attending. I am not local, and plans are not just to attend the celebration, but make time for an extended stay. My hope is to be able to carve time out with old friends to catch up and share. I will also be bringing some additional items as listed below and hope that these suggestions may help in the planning for special times with friends and relatives at your own reunion.
1. Photographs - If you have old photos of classmates or events, bring them in an album and maybe have copies made to distribute.
2. Yearbooks - Bring multiple yearbooks so that you can share.
3. Class and school newspapers - Run multiple copies to share.
4. Videos/8 mm movies (Super 8) - Transfer these media onto discs or other digital media and play them at the reunion.
5. Memorabilia - These could be made into a display, thus sparking additional memories.
6. Scripted memories to share - Write down certain memories of events, people, and places. Then, share them with others.
7. Previous reunions' photographs - Distribute copies of previous reunion photos.
So, as our reunions are drawing near, let us enjoy these special occasions with friends and relatives. For me, I'm looking forward to seeing all of the Wykon classmates in August. God bless you all!
