Jim Parker, of Gladstone, leads the pack around the Superior BMX track, located behind the Delta County Sports Complex — now the Hannahville Ice and Turf Complex — in Wells during the 15 Expert class race on June 16, 1985. Parker finished second in the race. A Father’s Day race was also held that weekend, which was won by Mike Lahti, of Bark River, who won the event after pushing his bike across the finish line in a preliminary heat after the bike’s chain slipped. The track closed in the mid-90s. Today, only one BMX race track continues to operate in the U.P., Marquette BMX in Marquette.
