Depuydt named Top Education Specialist Program Grad

Travis Depuydt

HERMANSVILLE — Travis Depuydt of Hermansville, has been named the Northern Michigan University School of Education, Leadership and Public Service 2020-21 outstanding graduating graduate student from the education specialist program. He earned his degree May 1.

Depuydt currently serves as the K-12 principal at Carney-Nadeau Public School. He successfully defended his original thesis research, titled “The Impact of COVID-19 on Teacher Interactions with Students with Special Needs,” in January 2021. He is planning to complete his doctoral degree at Central Michigan University.

Depuydt’s biography for the award notes that he “continually recognized opportunities to better the experience of the students and staff at the Carney-Nadeau Schools by constructively developing and implementing leadership practices. He is reflective in practice and committed to the work of an educator who sought out and engaged in authentic and meaningful leadership experiences.”

NMU’s virtual commencement was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 1.
