Remember When?
Photo courtesy Connie Schmidt, by Bernie Schultz, printed originally in the Daily Press Three puppies won in one joint household at a movie matinée seemed just too much good luck to the mothers of the ecstatic children who brought the little dogs home. Shown from left to right are Connie Schmidt (Bichler) with her nieces, Christine Truitt (Bichler), and Sherry Henderson (Bichler). At the time of the photo, the Bichler girls were nine, six, and seven, respectively, and all lived in the same home. The girls went to a matinee at the Delft Theater, where they won three of nine puppies being given away that day. Christine and Sherry’s younger brother, Don, who was four at the time, also went to the theater while his mother was away in Green Bay, but he did not win a puppy. According to the story the Daily Press ran on the girls’ incredible luck in 1956, having Connie’s dog made him feel better about his luck.
