Legion breakfast Sunday

GLADSTONE — The American Legion in Gladstone is serving breakfast on Sunday, March 15. Serving will be from 9 a.m. until noon.

MARSP March meeting

MANISTIQUE — The Retired School Personnel of Schoolcraft and Eastern Delta Counties will meet at The 40 Bar and Grill in Manistique at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 11. Amy Cardamone-Rayner will speak on “Holistic Healing.” Those planning to attend may call 283-3209 by Sunday evening, March 8.

There is a cost for the luncheon, payable at the door. New members are always welcome.

Third Sunday breakfasts

ROCK — The Rock Lions Third Sunday All-You-Can-Eat Breakfast will take place on the third Sundays of March, June, September, and December from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Rock Lions Club, located on M-35 in Rock. There is a cost for the breakfast, but children under 5 eat free.

The clubhouse is available for rent by calling Jerry at 906-356-6475.

Rapid Readers to meet

RAPID RIVER — The next Rapid Readers meeting will take place Thursday, March 12, at 10 a.m. at Jack’s Restaurant in Rapid River. The March book is Robert Galbraith’s “The Cuckoo’s Calling.”

“Speaking Truth to Power” by Anita Hill is the April 16 reading selection.

Healing prayer service

ESCANABA — Fr. Ryan Ford will be leading a healing service for those in need of a physical, emotional, relational or spiritual healing at St. Joseph and St. Patrick Parish, 709 1st Ave South, Escanaba, MI 49829. The service is not a mass, and will be held Thursday, April 16 at 6:30 p.m. All are welcome to attend.

Used books sought

ESCANABA — The Delta County League of Women Voters is looking for donations of books, audiobooks, DVDs and music CDs to be sold at its annual book sale in August. The League is also in need of large print books, which are often requested.

Funds from the annual sale are used to publish voter guides and for other voter services.

Donated materials should be no more than 10 years old and in good condition.

Books can be delivered to the Daily Press Business Office at 600 Ludington Street during normal business hours. For pick-up, call Pat Rudden at 280-1789.

Choral Society concert

ESCANABA — The Bay de Noc Choral Society will present its Spring Concert on Sunday, April 5 at 1:30 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church in Escanaba under the direction of Ann Wood. The concert will feature songs of peace and war, including Pete Seeger’s “Where Have All The Flowers Gone?” and “Mass In Time of War” by Joseph Haydn.

The Choral Society will be accompanied by John Ignatowski on the piano and organ and will be joined by hand bells, oboe, flute and violin. Laura Robinson will play the oboe obbligato on Jon Rutter’s “The Lord is My Shepherd.” A free-will donation will be accepted.

Legion opens library

RAPID RIVER — Walter W. Cole American Legion Post 301 in Rapid River has opened a library in the legion hall.

The library is free to all and is open from 5 to 9 p.m. Mondays, Service Officer Wednesday, as well as any other days that the hall is open to the public.

Also, the Legion Hall is available for rental. For more information, please contact Carl at 906-399-8517.

Taco Tuesday returns

GLADSTONE — Taco Tuesday is back at the Gladstone American Legion Post 71. Serving is from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The public is welcome. The events are held at Gladstone American Legion Auxiliary Unit 71, 802 Delta Ave. in Gladstone.
