HOUGHTON, Mich. -- Local students were among more than 325 graduates honored at Michigan Technological University's Midyear Commencement held on the Houghton, Michigan campus on Dec. 14, 2019.
Graduating were Jacob Peterson of Gladstone, who received a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, and Veronica Norbotten of Manistique, who received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
Michigan Tech alumna Jennifer (Fuller) Julien delivered the commencement address. While educated as a civil and environmental engineer, Julien has transitioned into a successful entrepreneur, investing more than $25 million into the Houghton community with her husband Jon.
The student speaker was Victoria Quinde Serrano. The native of Cuenca, Ecuador was a three-time captain on Tech women's tennis team and served as an assistant coach in the fall season.
Michigan Technological University is a public research university, home to more than 7,000 students from 60 countries. Founded in 1885, the University offers more than 120 undergraduate and graduate degree programs in science and technology, engineering, forestry, business and economics, health professions, humanities, mathematics, and social sciences.
