MADD seeks volunteers

ESCANABA — Volunteers are needed for MADD. Opportunities are available for those interested in volunteering a couple of times a year or a couple of times a week. There are a wide variety of opportunities to match interests and expertise. Some options include speaking, answering the help-line calls, organizing victim impact panels, mailing information or just displaying MADD red ribbons.

Lenten breakfast event returns Feb. 22 in Esky

ESCANABA — The Annual Lenten Breakfast and Musical Program at Immanuel Lutheran Church, located at 600 South Lincoln Road in Escanaba, will be held Saturday, Feb. 22. Breakfast will be served at 9:15 a.m. with the program starting at 10 a.m.

The theme is “Behold, I stand at the door and knock.” In addition to soloists, the Rock-Perkins Area Cantata Choir will be participating this year.

The speaker will be Reverend Dennis Meyette.

Seating for the breakfast is limited to 200, but program seating is unlimited. Call for your breakfast reservation by Feb. 19 to 786-6771 or 233-1857.

Nursery care will be provided upon request.

A free-will donation for the breakfast and musical program will be received at the program. The ILCW will donate a portion of the proceeds to the Welcome Newborn Program at OSF St. Francis Hospital.

Delta Kappa Gamma scholarship offered

ESCANABA — The Delta Kappa Gamma Society is pleased to announce that it will again award a local high school scholarship to a senior girl planning a career in education. Delta Kappa Gamma is an international organization of women educators who promote professional and personal growth of women educators.

They support and encourage educational excellence and intercultural understanding.

The Beta Sigma Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma is composed of Escanaba, Menominee and Iron Mountain-Kingsford. Previous local winners of this scholarship were 2019 – Taylor Rae Myers, Escanaba; 2018 – a student from Bark River; 2017 – Erica Rubick, Rapid River; 2016 – Mackenzie Leisner, Escanaba; 2015 – Mikaela Jefferson, Escanaba; 2014 – Kristen Leigh Bergstrom, Escanaba; 2013 – Anissa Lynne Godfrey, Gladstone; 2012 – Margaret A. Rose, Escanaba; 2011 – Lauren Kleinman, Escanaba; 2010 – Jordan Dalgord, Rapid River; 2009 – Whitney Veihl, Bark River, and 2008 – Emily Robinso, Bark River.

Senior girls planning a career in education from the Delta-Schoolcraft area can learn further details about this scholarship from their hight school guidance counselor. Applications are due April 27, 2020. If you have any questions, call Rose at 786-5674 or Jeanne at 789-0110.

Taco Tuesday returns

GLADSTONE — Taco Tuesday is back at the Gladstone American Legion Post 71. Serving is from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The public is welcome. The events are held at Gladstone American Legion Auxiliary Unit 71, 802 Delta Ave., in Gladstone.

Food pantry hours

ESCANABA — The Community Service Center food pantry adjacent to the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Escanaba is open from 1 to 4 p.m. on Monday and Saturday.

Donations for Jacobetti Home for Veterans

ESCANABA — Those wishing to donate to the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette can drop off items at the Amvets Post 123 located at 1315 North Lincoln Road in Escanaba.

Items can include Forever stamps, personal fans, watches with stretch bands, electric razors (cordless), personal CD players/radios, current magazines, and more.

The home for veterans is currently not accepting clothing protectors, and until further notice, will not accept lap robes and books due to an ample supply.
