Steak dinner at Legion

GLADSTONE — The American Legion in Gladstone will be serving a steak dinner on Thursday, Jan. 30 from 4:30 until 7 p.m. The public is welcome.

Lenten breakfast event returns Feb. 22 in Esky

ESCANABA — The Annual Lenten Breakfast and Musical Program at Immanuel Lutheran Church, located at 600 South Lincoln Road in Escanaba, will be held Saturday, Feb. 22. Breakfast will be served at 9:15 a.m. with the program starting at 10 a.m.

The theme is “Behold, I stand at the door and knock.” In addition to soloists, the Rock-Perkins Area Cantata Choir will be participating this year.

The speaker will be Reverend Dennis Meyette.

Seating for the breakfast is limited to 200, but program seating is unlimited. Call for your breakfast reservation by Feb. 19 to 786-6771 or 233-1857.

Nursery care will be provided upon request.

A free-will donation for the breakfast and musical program will be received at the program. The ILCW will donate a portion of the proceeds to the Welcome Newborn Program at St. Francis Hospital.

A Journey Through Grief

ESCANABA — “A Journey Through Grief” is a bereavement support group presented on behalf of UP Health System Hospice. This is a non-denominational support group that is open to anyone who has experienced the loss of a loved one.

The group provides educational materials and guide discussions on a variety of topics to assist those in the grieving process.

“A Journey Through Grief” is offered the last Thursday of every month. The next session is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 30 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at St. Thomas Church, 1820 9th Avenue North, Escanaba.

The group will be facilitated by Lewis Hague, UP Health System Hospice bereavement coordinator, and coordinated by Gayle DeShambo, account executive for UP Health System Hospice.

This support group is open to anyone in the community that is grieving the loss of a loved one.

Legion Post to meet

HERMANSVILLE — The Floriano-Stecker-Kelly Post 340 of Hermansville will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday, Feb. 13th at 6 p.m. at the American Legion Club Rooms in Hermansville.

AAUW to hold Book Night

ESCANABA — The American Association of University Women (AAUW) will hold “Book Night” on Feb. 20 at the home of Carol Bergquist, located at 1221 5th Ave. S. in Escanaba. Members and guests are invited to bring a favorite book to share.

The evening will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a soup supper. Snacks and desserts will be welcomed.

AAUW is open to men and women holding an associate’s degree or higher. Formed in 1881, the organization is globally recognized for its advancement of equity for women and girls through advocacy, education and research. For more information on AAUW call 474-6545.

Mill retirees to meet

ESCANABA — The Mill Retirees group will meet on Wednesday, Feb. 5 at the Union Hall on Sheridan Road at 10 a.m.

Refreshments will be provided and there will be a 50/50 drawing.

All mill retirees are invited to attend. The group meets the first Wednesday of every month.

Dance in Rock Feb. 9

ROCK — There will be a dance at the Rock Senior Center, located at 3892 W. Maple Ridge Rd, on Sunday, Feb. 9 from 1 to 4 p.m. Live music will be provided by Ron Jay and the Country Strangers.

There is a cost to attend the dance and lunch will be available for a free-will donation.

All proceeds benefit the Senior Corporation.
