Gladstone Senior Center bake sale planned

GLADSTONE — A bake sale will be held at the Gladstone Senior Center on Wednesday, Nov. 20 at 10 a.m. prior to the Thanksgiving luncheon and again on Nov. 21 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. The senior center is located at 303 No. 8 St. in Gladstone.

Donated baked items are also appreciated and can be dropped off at the center. All proceeds are for the upkeep and maintenance of the building.

MARSP to meet Dec. 3

HARRIS — The next MARSP meeting will be held Dec. 3 at noon at the Island Resort and Casino. Lunch will be served after a holiday sing-a-long.

A can drive will be held.

Reservations must be made by Monday, Nov. 18. Those not on a calling list may call 906-786-7748 for reservations.

Delta Kappa Gamma scholarship offered

ESCANABA — The Delta Kappa Gamma Society is pleased to announce that it will again award a local high school scholarship to a senior girl planning a career in education. Delta Kappa Gamma is an international organization of women educators who promote professional and personal growth of women educators.

They support and encourage educational excellence and intercultural understanding.

The Beta Sigma Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma is composed of Escanaba, Menominee and Iron Mountain-Kingsford. Previous local winners of this scholarship were 2019 – Taylor Rae Myers, Escanaba; 2018 – a student from Bark River; 2017 – Erica Rubick, Rapid River; 2016 – Mackenzie Leisner, Escanaba; 2015 – Mikaela Jefferson, Escanaba; 2014 – Kristen Leigh Bergstrom, Escanaba; 2013 – Anissa Lynne Godfrey, Gladstone; 2012 – Margaret A. Rose, Escanaba; 2011 – Lauren Kleinman, Escanaba; 2010 – Jordan Dalgord, Rapid River; 2009 – Whitney Veihl, Bark River, and 2008 – Emily Robinso, Bark River.

Senior girls planning a career in education from the Delta-Schoolcraft area can learn further details about this scholarship from their hight school guidance counselor. Applications are due April 27, 2020. If you have any questions, call Rose at 786-5674 or Jeanne at 789-0110.

Steak dinner at Legion

GLADSTONE — The American Legion Post 71 will be holding a steak dinner on Thursday, Nov. 21. Serving is from 4:30 until 7 p.m.

Used books sought

ESCANABA — The Delta County League of Women Voters is looking for donations of books, audiobooks, DVDs and music CDs to be sold at its annual book sale in August. The League is also in need of large print books, which are often requested.

Funds from the annual sale are used to publish voter guides and for other voter services.

Donated materials should be no more than 10 years old and in good condition. Books can be delivered to the Daily Press Business Office at 600 Ludington Street during normal business hours. For pick up, call Pat Rudden at 280-1789.

Forest Service retirees Christmas luncheon

WELLS — The annual Forest Service retirees Christmas luncheon will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 3 at the Buck Inn in Wells starting at 11:30 a.m. Members are asked to bring non-perishable food items, which will be donated to the St. Vincent de Paul food pantry.

Toastmasters to meet

ESCANABA — Bay De Noc Toastmasters develops communication and leadership skills every Wednesday, except the last Wednesday of the month, at noon in the Penstar Building, located at 1431 N. 26th St. in Escanaba.

Legion opens library

RAPID RIVER — Walter W. Cole American Legion Post 301 in Rapid River has opened a library in the legion hall.

The library is free to all and is open from 5 to 9 p.m. Mondays, Service Officer Wednesday, as well as any other days that the hall is open to the public. The Legion Hall is available for rental. For more information, contact Carl at 906-399-8517.
