Used books sought

ESCANABA — The Delta County League of Women voters is looking for donations of books, audiobooks, DVDs and music CDs to be sold at its annual book sale in August. The League is also in need of large print books, which are often requested.

Funds from the annual sale are used to publish voter guides and for other voter services.

Donated materials should be no more than 10 years old and in good condition.

Books can be delivered to the Daily Press Business Office at 600 Ludington Street during normal business hours. For pick up, call Pat Rudden at 280-1789.

No November breakfast

GLADSTONE — American Legion Post 71 of Gladstone will not be serving breakfast in November due to hunting season.

Breakfast, bake sale at Escanaba Eagles Post

ESCANABA — The Escanaba Eagles Post 1088 will hold a breakfast and bake sale on Sunday, Nov. 17 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Eagles Hall, located at 608 Ludington Street in Escanaba.

There is a fee to attend the breakfast. The public is welcome. For more information, call the Escanaba Eagles Club at 786-3451.

Escanaba Community Garden harvest event

ESCANABA — The public is invited to joint Escanaba Community Garden members on Thursday, Nov. 14 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Delta MSU Extension office, 2840 College Ave., for an Escanaba Community Garden harvest event.

Community garden members, Extension Master Gardeners, and Extension staff will be on hand to celebrate the end of the growing season. Anyone interested in the Community Garden is invited to attend.

Along with a potluck highlighting the garden harvest, members will be asked to provide feedback on this past growing season. Safe food preservation techniques and tips will also be provided.

Audubon Club to meet

ESCANABA — The Bay de Noc Audubon Club will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. The meeting will take place in Room 961 of the Joseph Heirman University Center at Bay College. The meeting is open to anyone interesting in birding. There is no charge.

Annual turkey dinner

RAPID RIVER — The Walter W. Cole American Legion Post 301 in Rapid River will be having its annual Hunters’ Turkey Dinner Saturday, Nov. 16 from 4 to 7 p.m. Raffle drawings will be held at 7 p.m. There is a cost to attend this dinner.

Pie and bake sale

POWERS — In past years, the Grace Lutheran Church Ladies held a chili feed and bake sale early in deer hunting season for the hunters and area residents to enjoy and to support the Lutheran Youth Group. This year, the Lutheran Ladies are instead holding a pie and bake sale the day before Thanksgiving, Nov. 27, at the church to support the youth group.

People can get their pies and other baked goods to help reduce the hustle and bustle of cooking for Thanksgiving by stopping in at the “Little White Church,” located on Highway U.S. 2 and Main Street in Powers.

Vegan Thanksgiving

NEGAUNEE — The Northern Vegans will be having their 13th Annual Thanksgiving Potluck Dinner at Immanuel Lutheran Church, located on the corner of U.S. 41 West and Baldwin Avenue in Negaunee, on Thursday, Nov. 28. The dinner will begin at 12:30 p.m.

Guests are asked to bring a vegan dish to share — no meat, dairy, eggs or honey — or consider donating if they are unable to bring vegan food.
