Fire department gets AAA grant

The grant will be used for traffic safety equipment, including two “Emergency Scene Ahead” signs, 10 tax LED road flare safety discs, and 25 NFPA-compliant traffic cones. The Stephenson department is a 100 percent volunteer agency with current membership of 17 trained and certified Michigan firefighters. On hand for the grant presentation were, left to right, Theresa and Dwayne Klein of the AAA Insurance Klein Agency, Escanaba; Jen Bastien, public information officer of the local department; Rick Bastien, fire chief; Brian White, assistant chief; Connie Westrich, mayor of the city of Stephenson; and Judy Schwalbach, representing the Office of Ed McBroom.
