MARSP to meet Nov. 5

ESCANABA — The November meeting of MARSP will be held at noon on Nov. 5 at the Joseph Heirman University Center on the campus of Bay de Noc Community College. Attendees should use the Danforth Road entrance.

Lunch will be served buffet-style.

The financial director from the Island Resort and Casino will be the guest speaker and will discuss how monies from the casino are used in the community.

Members are encouraged to bring used eye glasses to the meeting. Reservations must be made no later than Oct. 28. If you are not on a calling list, call 906-786-7748 to make reservations.

Escanaba Indian Ed Fall Feast set for Tuesday

ESCANABA — Escanaba Area School’s Title VI Indian Education Program invites the public to its annual Fall Feast and forum. It will be held at the Upper Elementary cafeteria on Tuesday, Oct. 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. Enter at the handicapped-accessible entrance on the west side of the building.

Holy Name High School Class of 1960 to meet

ESCANABA — The Holy Name High School Class of 1960 will hold a reunion planning meeting and lunch on Oct. 17, 12:30, at Hereford and Hops. Those attending should call 786-3415 no later than Oct. 15 to make a reservation or to obtain further information.

‘Halloween Tails’ at the Public Library Oct. 26

GLADSTONE — The Gladstone Public Library will host a “Halloween Tails!” story hour on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.. All children ages two to ten years old are welcome to join in the spine-tingling festivities and will enjoy special hair-raising tales, spooky music, crafts and a special treat. Guests are asked to come dressed in their best costume.

Neurologist to speak to Parkinson’s group

KINGSFORD — The Parkinson Society of Dickinson County Area will host neurologist Dr. Steven Schechter, of West Bloomfield, at the support group meeting on Thursday, Oct. 17. Check-in for this meeting will begin at 10 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church on Hamilton Avenue in Kingsford. Coffee will be available.

Schechter will speak on the medication “Xadago,” which has recently been approved by the FDA for use with Parkinson patients. After lunch he will direct a yoga routine done in a seated position, as he is a certified yoga instructor.

Lunch will be provided free of charge by Stephanie Belf of U.S. World Meds.

All area Parkinson’s patients and their caregivers are invited.

Fish Fry fundraiser

ESCANABA — Delta County Democratic Party Annual Fish Fry fundraiser will be Saturday, Oct. 26 at the Plumbers and Pipefitters Hall, Local 111, located at 2601 N. 30th St. in Escanaba. Social hour will be at 5 p.m. with the dinner at 6 p.m.

Purple Heart 1976 meeting on Oct. 31

ESCANABA — The Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH) Chapter 1976 will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31 at the clubhouse building, 1202 Sheridan Road.

The MOPH is for all military veterans who sustained combat wounds during their service to the country.
