All-you-can-eat breakfast
RAPID RIVER — The 2nd Sunday all-you-can-eat breakfast at the Rapid River Legion Post 301 Hall will support the U.P. Honor Flight. Food will be available Sunday, Aug. 11 from 8 a.m. to noon.
Delta County LWV to hold used book sale
ESCANABA — The League of Women Voters of Delta County will hold a used book, video and CD sale on Saturday Aug. 3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in conjunction with the Bonifas Fine Arts Center Waterfront Art Festival in Ludington Park.
Proceeds from the sale are used to pay for printing voter education publications or providing other voter services.
Sons of Union Veterans to meet Saturday
MARQUETTE — Camp 266 of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War will hold their bi-monthly meeting on Saturday, Aug. 3 at 1 p.m. in the old board room at the Jacobetti Veterans Home in Marquette. The room is on the lower level of the home and easily accessible from the rear parking lot.
The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War is a fraternal organization dedicated to preserving the history and legacy of the heroes who fought and worked to save the Union. Camp 266 includes members from across the Upper Peninsula. The focus of the camp is locating, marking, and maintaining graves of Civil War veterans as well as researching Civil War history.

EAHS Class of ’64 reunion set for Aug. 14
ESCANABA — The Escanaba Area High School Class of 1964 will hold its 55th reunion Wednesday, Aug. 14 at the Terrace Bay Inn beginning at 5 p.m.
The deadline for reservations/payments is Aug. 5. Contact Darlene Anderson 906-280-7515 or Laurel Swanson at 906-233-7292.
Classmates are also invited to join in at lunch on Aug. 15 at the Stonehouse at 1 p.m. Let Swanson know if you are interested, as reservations are required.
AAUW hosts Sunday Soiree on Aug. 11
ESCANABA — Members of the Escanaba Area Branch of AAUW (American Association of University Women) will hold a “Sunday Soiree” at the home of Kathleen Bennett beginning at 4 p.m. on Aug. 11. The event will begin with wine and hors d’oeuvres, followed by a piano recital by Lani Hall Van Voorden. A native of Escanaba, Van Voorden graduated from the Interlochen Arts Academy in 1973 and was awarded a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music.
Van Voorden spent a dozen years in Europe, during which time she was employed by the Staats Opera in Munich, Germany, performed as a solo pianist for theatre and concert venues, recorded numerous classical and contemporary music pieces and provided music for several movies, including “The Old Man and the Sea” and “Silence of the Lambs.”
Upon her return to the United States, she continued her career of performing and teaching in the San Francisco, Calif. area. She is currently setting up a piano studio at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Escanaba, where she will welcome piano students at all levels — including beginning. Registration for classes will begin in the fall and more information may be obtained by emailing pianoslvv@gmail.com.
AAUW members are asked to make their reservations for the recital by calling 786-3415 no later than Aug. 9. Seating is limited and reservations are required.
Class of 1953 plan get-together
ESCANABA — Classmates of the Escanaba High School Class of 1953 and spouses are planning to meet at Hereford and Hops on Monday, Aug. 5 at 1 p.m. If you wish to attend call either Carol Mosher at 474-9962 or Carol Gregoire at 786-0302.
It’s informal, and classmates will order from the menu.
