Blueberry Fest set for July 28 in Isabella

ISABELLA — The Annual Blueberry Fest will take place July 28 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Isabella Community Hall, located on US 2 and Hwy 495. The event will feature blueberry pies and buckles, raffles, music, and a cake walk.

The event is open to the public. All proceeds and donations benefit ongoing restoration projects for the historic hall.

A Journey Through Grief

ESCANABA — “A Journey Through Grief” is a bereavement support group presented to individuals on behalf of UP Health System Hospice. This is a non-denominational support group that is open to anyone who has experienced the loss of a loved one. The group provides educational materials and guided discussions on a variety of topics to assist those in the grieving process.

“A Journey Through Grief” is offered the last Thursday of every month. The next session is scheduled for Thursday, July 25 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at St. Thomas Church, 1820 9th Ave. North, Escanaba.

The group will be facilitated by Lewis Hague, UP Health System Hospice Bereavement Coordinator and coordinated by Gayle DeShambo, Account Executive for UP Health System Hospice.

This support group is open to anyone in the community that is grieving the loss of a loved one.

Lions Club announces holiday raffle winners

GLADSTONE — The Gladstone Lions Club would like to thank everyone that purchased raffle tickets to the club’s 4th of July fundraiser. The club has given back over $10,000 this year to Gladstone organizations and projects, along with funding its mission of providing glasses and eye care to children and adults that need assistance.

This year’s raffle winners are: Amber Augeyer, $1,000; Deb Larson, $300; Lacey Nuernberg, $125; Mrs. Lionel Herioux, $50; and Jessica Gallagher, $25. Gallagher donated her winnings back to the Lions Club.

Cancer benefit for April Fitzgerald Turner

QUINNESEC, Mich. — A benefit will be held Saturday, Aug. 3 from 1 to 5 p.m. at The Big 10 Sport Bar and Grill in Quinnesec, Mich. for April Fitzgerald Turner. Turner has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Food will be provided by The Curious Pig, and raffles and 50/50 drawings will take place.

Thornapple Jazz Orchestra concert

ESCANABA — The Thornapple Jazz Orchestra will be touring the U.P. in July. They will be playing in Escanaba at the Karas Band Shell in Ludington Park on Thursday, July 11 at 6 p.m.

The group will arrive in Escanaba around 5 p.m. and set up for the one-hour performance that begins at 6 p.m.

The Thornapple Jazz Orchestra is from Hastings, Mich. and is comprised of community members and regional instrumentalists with an interest in performing music rooted in the big band jazz genre.

AAUW to tour Cultural Center in Hannahville

HANNAVILLE — On Saturday, July 27, American Association of University Women (AAUW) members will meet at the Native American Cultural Center in Hannaville for a tour of the facility. The tour will include a Native American-themed lunch. A small fee will be charged for lunch and reservations are required. Members and guests are asked to call 786-3415 no later than July 23 if they plan to attend. Those who have already signed up do not need to call, as their reservation has been confirmed. AAUW was established in 1881 and is open to men and women holding an associates degree or higher. The group promotes gender equity and life-long learning. For further information about AAUW, call 399-6080.
