Escanaba Class of 1984 reunion set for July 6

ESCANABA — The Escanaba Class of 1984 will be holding a reunion Saturday, July 6 at the Terrace Bluff Golf Club in Gladstone. Tee times start at 12:30, with registration at noon.

This is a nine-hole event, 18 holes for those that wish to continue on. Those without a foursome will be paired up. Greens fees vary depending on whether you golf 9 or 18 holes and have a cart.

Appetizers will be served and a cash bar will be available from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

DJ’ed dancing will take place until midnight.

Sons of Union Veterans to meet Memorial Day

RAPID RIVER — Camp 266 of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War will hold its bi-monthly meeting on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27 at 11 a.m. Eastern near the gate at the park on Pine Street in Rapid River. The main focus of the meeting will be planning displays for the new All Veterans Museum at the U.P. State Fairgrounds.

Members will also participate in the parade at 1 p.m. and have a display of memorabilia at the Memorial Day festival.

The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War is a fraternal organization dedicated to preserving the history and legacy of the heroes who fought and worked to save the Union. Camp 266 includes members from across the Upper Peninsula. The focus of the camp is locating, marking, and maintaining graves of Civil War veterans as well as researching Civil War history.

Anyone interested in the organization, including women, is welcome to attend. More information is available from Camp Commander Patrick Kennedy at uppermichigan@yahoo.com or 906-863-7686. Also, contact Kennedy if inclement weather may cause cancellation of the meeting.

Amvets to host Country Express Friday night

ESCANABA — Amvets Post 123, located at 1315 North Lincoln Road in Escanaba, is featuring country and variety band Country Express Friday, May 24 from 7 to 11 p.m. The public is welcome.

Memorial Day programs

HERMANSVILLE — Floriano-Stecker-Kelly Post 340 American Legion Hermansville has set the Memorial Day program schedule for Monday, May 27:

5 a.m. — Flag Raising Half Mast — Riverside and Meyer Township Cemetery

8 a.m. — Legion, Auxiliary, VVA, Amvets, and Boy Scout Members meet at Post Club Rooms

9 a.m. — Memorial Service at Riverside Cemetery, Faithorn

9:30 a.m. — Memorial Service at Menominee River, Faithorn

10:30 a.m. — Memorial Service at Hermansville Lake

10:45 a.m. — Memorial Service at Veterans Memorial Marker

11:15 a.m. — Memorial Service at Meyer Township Cemetery

Lunch will be served at the Legion Club rooms by the Ladies Auxiliary, Post 340 following service at Meyer Township Cemetery. Coffee and brunch will be served at the Faithorn Town Hall after the Menominee River Service.

Knights of Columbus breakfast June 2

ESCANABA — The Knights of Columbus, Council 640 of Escanaba, will sponsor a breakfast for the benefit of area seminarians. It will be held at St. Thomas the Apostle Church Hall, 1820 9th Ave. North, on June 2, 2019 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. All are welcome to attend and support local seminarians.

9/11 memorial quilts

ESCANABA — The 9/11 World Trade Center Memorial Quilt Project “Sew We Never Forget” will hold a showing of a collection of 300 quilts honoring the victims of 9/11 in Escanaba this month.

The showing will take place at Bay de Noc Community College, 2001 N. Lincoln Rd., Escanaba. Setup is on May, 28, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The show will run from 2 to 7 p.m. May 28, and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. May 29 and 30.

A freewill donation will be collected at the door.
