Wells Lions 52 club ­raffle winner named

WELLS — The winners of the Wells Lions Club raffle for the week of May 20 are Dick and Bernice Caron of Escanaba and Wayne Anderson of Escanaba. The winners won $250. This was week 42 of the raffle.

Country Express to play at Amvets Friday

ESCANABA — Amvets Post 123, located at 1315 North Lincoln Road in Escanaba, is featuring country and variety band Country Express Friday, May 24 from 7 to 11 p.m. The public is welcome.

ESCANABA — The Escanaba graduating class of 1949 is having a casual reunion get-together at the Stonehouse Friday, June 28 at noon.

Spouses or other companions are welcome.

Sons of Union Veterans to meet Memorial Day

RAPID RIVER — Camp 266 of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War will hold its bi-monthly meeting on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27 at 11 a.m. Eastern near the gate at the park on Pine Street in Rapid River. The main focus of the meeting will be planning displays for the new All Veterans Museum at the U.P. State Fairgrounds.

Members will also participate in the parade at 1 p.m. and have a display of memorabilia at the Memorial Day festival.

The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War is a fraternal organization dedicated to preserving the history and legacy of the heroes who fought and worked to save the Union. Camp 266 includes members from across the Upper Peninsula. The focus of the camp is locating, marking, and maintaining graves of Civil War veterans as well as researching Civil War history.

Anyone interested in the organization, including women, is welcome to attend. More information is available from Camp Commander Patrick Kennedy at uppermichigan@yahoo.com or 906-863-7686. Also contact Kennedy if inclement weather may cause cancellation of the meeting.

Compassionate Friends meeting Thursday

ESCANABA — Compassionate Friends’ May meeting will be this Thursday evening, May 23, at 7 p.m. in the Escanaba High School conference room.

Garden Gallery open house tomorrow

GARDEN — The Garden Art Gallery will once again open its door to visitors with an open house from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 23 on Main Street in Garden. The open house is designed as a way to let the public know that the Gallery has re-opened for the season.

The gallery will be offering a $50 gift certificate and door prizes along with free appetizers, drinks and desserts. Inn and Coffee Exchange will be providing customers with roasted coffee. This celebration includes a spaghetti dinner by Nahma Inn Kitchen as a fundraiser for Tri Star, beginning at 4:30 p.m. in the community hall. This is a free will donation meal.

The gallery showroom will be open with a variety of items for sale and many of the more than 50 local artists present. Several new artists will be present.

Solid Gold Seniors ­perform at senior center

GLADSTONE — The Solid Gold Seniors performed at Gladstone Senior Center’s monthly birthday lunch in April. The line dance group meets Fridays from 9:30 to 11 a.m. through the end of May. A basic beginner class will start June 7 and runs each Friday morning from 10 to 11 a.m.

Knights of Columbus breakfast June 2

ESCANABA — The Knights of Columbus, Council 640 of Escanaba, will sponsor a breakfast for the benefit of area seminarians. It will be held at St. Thomas the Apostle Church Hall, 1820 9th Ave. North, on June 2, 2019 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. All are welcome to attend and support local seminarians.
