The grant, ‘Weaving History and Art Within our Community – Makes a Difference,’ provided students with $500.

Students learned about the history of weaving, the Industrial Revolution and were able to purchase looms and loops thanks to the grant.

To give back to the community, BR-H fourth graders made hot pads for Tri-County Safe Harbor, which covers the needs of Delta, Menominee and Schoolcraft counties.

“Our mission is to serve victims of domestic and sexual violence, to raise awareness, educate and involve the communities we serve,” said Crime Victim Advocate Melissa Carter.

Carter fielded students’ questions and said she was pleased to receive the hot pads, as many victims come to the shelter with few possessions. She plans to use some hot pads in the shelter. The remaining hot pads will be place in packages victims take with them when they are ready to start their lives outside the shelter.
