Sloppy Joe feast set

GLADSTONE — First Lutheran Church in Gladstone will be hosting a Sloppy Joe feast on Nov. 11 in Gladstone at 11:45 a.m. The sandwiches will be served with all the “trimmings” and will be prepared by the Thrivent action team. The public is welcome and the entire free will offering will be sent to the victims of Hurricane Michael.

DeForge benefit Sunday

MARQUETTE — A benefit for 26-year-old stroke survivor Zac DeForge will take place Sunday, Nov. 11 from 4 to 7 p.m. at 130 W. Washington St. in Marquette in the Masonic Banquet Room.

DeForge, who is originally from Atlantic Mine and lives in Marquette, was on his way to stand in a friend’s wedding in Wisconsin on Aug. 28. When he arrived at his girlfriend’s house, he asked for ibuprofen for an intense headache. The headache turned into a loss of function on the right side of his body and slurred speech. He was rushed to the hospital, where it was confirmed DeForge had suffered a stroke in the left hemisphere of his brain caused by a blood clot.

Legion Post 115 to meet Monday in Arnold

ARNOLD — The Escanaba River American Legion Post 115 and the Auxiliary will meet at the Wells School in Arnold at 9 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 12 for a program and a regular meeting.

Christmas tree lighting ceremony Nov. 23

GLADSTONE — The Gladstone-Rapid River Kiwanis Club will hold its Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on Friday, Nov. 23 at the Gladstone Beach House. The tree will glow with colored lights in Honor or Remembrance Lights to recognize loved ones who have lights purchased in their name.

The ceremony will immediately follow the Gladstone Old Fashioned Christmas festivities held in downtown Gladstone. Santa will be present and Christmas Carols will be sung by those in attendance.

Free cookies and hot chocolate will be served.

Honor and Remembrance Light request forms are available at Elmer’s County Market, Viau’s Supermarket, Pat’s IGA, Gladstone City Hall and Rapid River Mini Mart.

Individuals honored with lights will have their names posted on the Kiwanis website, www.gladstonekiwanis.weebly.com. The Honor/Remembrance Christmas Tree will be lit from dusk to dawn each night through Jan. 9, 2019.

GFWC-Escanaba Woman’s Club meeting

ESCANABA — The November membership meeting of the GFWC-Escanaba Woman’s Club is on Nov. 14 at Pacinos Restaurant. The social and auction begin at 11:30 a.m. with lunch at noon.

There will be a silent auction of items donated by members and lunch will be provided. Email gfwcescanaba@gmail.com for reservations before noon Nov. 12. Individuals interested in the club are welcome to attend.

MARSP members to meet in Manistique

MANISTIQUE — Habitat ReStore Manager Eric Sherbinow will be the speaker at the Nov. 14, 2018 MARSP meeting. The meeting will take place in the Habitat for Humanity HiawathaLand conference room, located at 401 Deer Street in Manistique at 11:30 a.m.

All retired school personnel from Schoolcraft and eastern Delta Counties are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Lecture series at East Ludington Gallery

ESCANABA — The East Ludington Gallery, 1007 Ludington St. Escanaba, will be hosting lecturers on the third Thursday of every month.

This month will be Monica Mortel speaking on alcohol ink on tile. The lecture will be held Nov. 15 from 7 to 8 p.m. and it is open to the public free of charge.
