Artist lecture Oct. 8

ESCANABA -- The East Ludington Gallery, 1007 Ludington St. Escanaba, will be having a Lecture series the third Thursday of every month.

This month will be Teresa Ross, speaking on fabric collages. The lecture will take place on Oct. 18 from 7 to 8 p.m. and it is open to the public free of charge.

Legion Post 115 meets Wednesday in Arnold

ARNOLD -- The regular monthly meeting for the Escanaba River American Legion Post 115 and the Auxiliary will meet at the Wells Township Hall in Arnold at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 3.

Yooper Service Dogs conference Saturday

ESCANABA -- Yooper Service Dogs (YSD) is hosting an all day event on Saturday, Oct. 6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for people with all kinds of disabilities that are considering a dog to assist them. The event will take place in Escanaba at Bay College in the Joseph Heriman University Center, room 952.

This event will feature speakers from Paws With A Cause, SuperiorLand Pet Partners, Leader Dogs for the Blind, YSD, and the Superior Alliance for Independent Living (SAIL). YSD will also be leading a short class on the difference between service, emotional support, skilled companions, and therapy animals; and a class on how to navigate service animal law. YSD’s service dog trainer will also be on hand to answer questions from people training their own service animals.

Business owners, the media, and members of the public are welcome to attend.

Kennel club to meet

ESCANABA -- The Bay de Noc Kennel Club will hold its next general meeting on Thursday, Oct. 11, at 7 p.m. at the Kennel Club Building, located at 6687 N.75 Dr. in Escanaba (just north of the Wells Sports Complex, next to the baseball field). The public is welcome to attend.

Mill retirees to hold meeting Wednesday

ESCANABA -- The Mill Retirees group will meet on Wednesday, Oct. 3, at the Union Hall on Sheridan Road at 10 a.m. Refreshments will be provided and there will be a 50/50 drawing.

All mill retirees are invited to attend. The group meets the first Wednesday of every month.

Grief group to meet Oct. 11 in Escanaba

ESCANABA -- The OSF Home Care Community Grief Group can provide a warm, caring and confidential environment that allows you the opportunity to be supported by others who understand.

OSF Home Care - 2018 Community Grief Group meetings are held on the second Tuesday of every month from 1 to 3 p.m. EST at Central United Methodist Church, 322 S. Lincoln Road, Escanaba. The next meeting will take place on Oct. 11.

Rapid Readers to meet

RAPID RIVER -- The Rapid River Readers' October reading choice is J.D. Vance’s “Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis.”

Discussion will take place at the home of D. Wasman at Ray’s Resort off of Couty Road 513 in Rapid River on Thursday, Oct. 11, at 10 a.m.

Sit-n-fit exercise class

ESCANABA -- Fitness chair exercises to improve strength, stretching, balance, flexibility and muscle will be held every Monday and Friday at 11 a.m. at the Escanaba Senior Center.
