VBS planned at Rapid River Congregational
RAPID RIVER — The Rapid River Congregational Church will hold its vacation Bible school Aug. 20-24, from 6 p.m. till 8 p.m. each evening. The theme of this year’s school is “The Gloryland Express.” It will feature stories, games, food, and crafts.

Rapid Readers meets Thursday at Jack’s
RAPID RIVER — The Rapid River Readers’ novel for August is “Beasts of Extraordinary Circumstance” by Ruth Lang.
Discussion takes place at Jack’s Restaurant on Thursday, Aug. 9, at 10 a.m. Readers’ choice for September is Felix Francis’ “Triple Crown.”

Bay de Noc Kennel Club to hold monthly meeting
ESCANABA — The Bay de Noc Kennel Club will hold its next general meeting on Thursday, August 9 at 7 p.m. at the Kennel Club Building, located at 6687 N.75 Dr. Escanaba (just north of the Wells Sports Complex, next to the baseball field). The public is welcome to attend.

AAUW to hold evening with artists Aug. 14
ESCANABA — The American Association of University Women (AAUW) will host an “Evening With Artists” on Aug. 14 at 6 p.m.
The evening will begin at the home of Carol Irving, located at 1204 8th Ave. South. Carol, who is a weaver and fiber artist, will show guests her studio and talk about how she gets her ideas for her projects. She will also share samples and give a demonstration.
Guests will then move next door to the home of April South Olson. April is a painter who works with layers of paint and wax.
