Uhazie receives teaching award from Lawrence University

APPLETON, Wis. — Perry J. Uhazie, of Escanaba, was honored at Lawrence University in Appleton with the Pi Kappa Lambda Music Education Teaching Award.

According to a statement from the university, Uhazie received the award “for outstanding leadership as a future choral music educator.” The statement also noted that “PJ has a singular ability to be both a fearless leader and a supportive colleague and friend to all Lawrentians.”

Uhazie’s record of service as a student leader includes being president of Concert Choir, assistant director of music at First United Methodist Church, assistant director for the main stage musical theater production “A Man of No Importance,” and director of the SPAMALU musical theater production.

The music education faculty at Lawrence University noted Uhazie’s interpersonal warmth, detail-oriented organization, and growth mindset, which fuels his constant improvement and enthusiasm for the work at hand.

Uhazie has accepted a middle school position in Fon du Lac, Wis. His parents are Cathy Uhazie and Perry Uhazie.
