Lt. Colonel David A. Reynolds retires
BARK RIVER – Lieutenant Colonel David A. Reynolds retired from active duty effective Dec. 1, with more than 26 years in the service. He is the son of Michael and Nancy Kossow from Bark River.
Reynolds was born in Washington D.C. on Dec. 11, 1966. He lettered in cross country and graduated from Escanaba High School in 1985. In September of 1985, he enlisted in the Navy and started technical training in Orlando, Fla., and in Ballston Spa, N. Y., culminating in his graduation as a Naval nuclear power machinist mate.
In October of 1987, Petty Officer Third Class Reynolds was assigned to the USS Theodore Roosevelt. In 1989, he qualified as chief machinery operator and assumed responsibility as the damage control work center supervisor for the #1 and #2 main propulsion plants. In 1991, Petty Officer Second Class Reynolds served as the general quarters chief machinery operator, #1 main propulsion plant, during Operation Dessert Storm.
Reynolds separated from the Navy in August of 1991 and proceeded to Michigan Technological University where, in May of 1995, he graduated Summa Cum Laude with a bachelors of science degree in civil engineering. In August of 1995, he attended Officer Training School at Maxwell Air Force Base (AFB), Alabama. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in November of 1995 and moved to the 14th Civil Engineer Squadron, Columbus AFB, Mississippi, where he worked as a contract planner and the Chief of SABER (Simplified Acquisition of Base Engineer Requirements).
In June of 1998, 1st Lieutenant Reynolds moved to the 12th Space Warning Squadron, Thule AB, Greenland, where he worked as the chief of engineering and programs. During this time, he was selected to acquire his masters of science degree via the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA) civilian institute sponsorship program. In August of 1999, he attended the University of Illinois, graduating with a masters of science Degree in Civil Engineering and moving to the 436th Civil Engineer Squadron, Dover AFB, Delaware, where he worked as the chief of maintenance engineering, the squadron section commander, and the readiness flight commander.
Reynolds deployed to Eskan Village, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in support of OperationSouthern Watch, and to Shaikh Isa AB, Bahrain, where he served as the Commander of the 384th Expeditionary Civil Engineer Squadron, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
In 2002, Reynolds was named the 436th Civil Engineer Company Grade Officer of the Year. In June of 2003, he moved to the USAFA, Colorado Springs, Colo., where he served as a civil engineering instructor. In 2004, he was the Officer in Charge of the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME)/USAFA Engineering and Construction Camp and earned the SAME Regional Merit Award.
Moving to HQ PACAF, Hickam AFB, Hawaii, in June 2005, he worked as the chief of programs and analysis and the program objective memorandum/command planning lead. During this time, he deployed to Bagram AB, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. In January of 2008, Major Reynolds proceeded to the 13th Air Force, where he worked as the chief of the civil engineering division. In June of 2008, he moved to the 56th Civil Engineer Squadron, Luke AFB, Ariz., where he worked as the operations flight commander and the programs flight chief. During this time, he deployed to Balad AB, Iraq, in support of Operation IIraqi Freedom.
In 2008, 2009, and 2010, he was named the 56th Mission Support Group Field Grade Officer of the Year.
In January of 2011, Reynolds moved to Headquarters, Air Force Space Command, where he worked as chief, expeditionary combat support and emergency response and chief, program development. He moved to HQ PACAF, Hickam AFB, Hawaii, in August 2011, where he worked as chief, programs integration branch. In March of 2013, he proceeded to the Inspector General Directorate where he finished his career as chief, civil engineer Inspections.
Lieutenant Colonel Reynolds earned recognition as a Project Management Professional (PMP) and as a Certified Facility Manager (CFM). He is an active member of SAME and maintains affiliation with the Project Management Institute (PMI), the International Facility Managers Association (IFMA) and the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA).
His military awards include the Meritorious Service Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air Force Commendation Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air Force Achievement Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Meritorious Unit Award, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air Force Organization Excellence Award, the Navy Unit Commendation, the Navy “E” Ribbon with two Battle “E” Devices, the Navy Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal with one Bronze Star, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Southwest Asia Service Medal with one Bronze Star, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with one Bronze Star, the Iraq Campaign Medal with one Bronze Star, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal, the Air Force Overseas Short Tour Ribbon with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air Force Overseas Long Tour Ribbon with one Oak Leaf Cluster, the Air Force Expeditionary Service Ribbon with Gold Boarder with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with two Service Stars, the Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon with four Oak Leaf Clusters, the Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon (Rifle), the Air Force Training Ribbon, the NATO Medal, the Kuwait Liberation Medal Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the Kuwait Liberation Medal Government of Kuwait.
Reynolds currently resides with his wife and three children in Hawaii.
