“Rocky Horror” returns to Forest Roberts Theatre

MARQUETTE - Northern Michigan University Theatre and Dance will host its live production of “The Rocky Horror Show” in Forest Roberts Theatre over three days: Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 22 to 24.
The stage performance brought to life in Marquette is the 1973 musical production written by Richard O’Brien, which gained further reach when the 1975 screenplay became a cult classic.
The plot of the horror-comedy-musical “puts a comedic spin on science fiction and horror movies from the 1930s through the early 1960s,” as a press release announcing the production put it. “When a newly-engaged couple gets caught in a storm, they seek shelter at the mansion of the eccentric Dr. Frank-N-Furter, a flamboyant scientist. Inside, they discover his latest creation, Rocky, a muscular, blonde-haired figure brought to life in a Frankenstein-inspired experiment, setting the stage for an unforgettable night.”
The show at NMU will have various showtimes across the weekend, including 7:30 p.m. showtimen on Oct. 22, 23 and 24 with additional 10:30 p.m. showtimes on Friday and Saturday. There will also be an opening night party following the Thursday show, featuring complimentary food and drinks and the opportunity to meet the cast and crew.
First-timers to “Rocky Horror” should note a few things: The show is intended for mature audiences, and those who’ve never seen the play might leave with lipstick on their forehead. For those who know what it’s all about, keep in mind that call-outs and costumes are permitted and encouraged, but prop-throwing is not allowed except for props sold in the lobby before the late-night Friday and Saturday shows.
Tickets for the event can be purchased in person or online at nmu.universitytickets.com. This show is a fundraiser and does not accept flex passes or season tickets.
This production contains flashing light, fog/haze effects, intense adult themes and adult language, implications of sexual intercourse, and brief partial nudity.
